Another Treadmill Record? WTF?
Monday, November 26, 2007
email from ang to tony in response to his mentioning the words ‘another record’:
yo,
yeah- it would be cool to get signed to do like 3 records (the first produced by jeff lynn) by some cool label who likes their bands to have families, be in their late 30's or early 40's with no obligation to tour, other than during 2 months in the summer where they would provide a provost tour bus for each family with nanny services included. but, since that's unlikely, i'm not sure what the other options are. unless you have a lead on something like that? Do you?!
i have been itching to do another record - but i'm just not sure what the point of doing one would really be... oh, and how it would get paid for. there's that too i guess.
god fucking damnit.

I guess this is how these thing start. We’re talking about it. I mean, shit- I’ve wanted to do another record for years - and if it can be a Treadmill project, all the better. Just never thought it would come up again. So- it’s on. We don’t know how it will happen, we just know that it will happen. I’m surprised at how into it Heidi is too- she’s full gung ho which really surprised me for some reason. After the show she mentioned enjoying being back in touch with her ‘inner-rock’. Now, I really need to get busy on some fucking new songs. I talked to our first producer Conrad Hunter (produced ‘Excessive Voice’) already, and he’s possibly into it. He’s one of my favorite peeps of all time- and before this tread stuff, the show and that- he had already come up to Asheville to visit with his family. Hadn’t really seen him in about 8 years. He’s as quietly inwardly insane and zen as ever. He’s so chill and mellow- but I just know there’s a fucking ton of angst in there somewhere. He’s like a bottle of soda that’s been slowly shaken for 30 years. I wanna be there when it blows! He’s busy with his life, so we’ll see. There’s a nice cyclical element to doing it with him that I like. I also talked to Jay Matheson at the Jam Room. I’ve only recorded there once, I played bass on one of Danielle Howles records, ‘About to Burst’ and it would be cool to do it there. Plus, it’s about 3 blocks from Tony’s house. Oh, and it’s cheap as balls and the stuff that comes out of there sounds pretty good. Not sure how the hell we’ll pay for this, no matter how cheap it is, but we’re trying to figure that out. Worst case- we could do the drums at the Jam Room or somewhere and then really- we could record everything else at my little home set up. Then we’d have to scrimp and save to mix it somewhere nice. I love fucking technology though. God, how great it would have been to have all this computer recording shit back in the day. It won’t be the most supreme quality to do it at my pad, but it’s a way to get it done if we need to. Who’s going to listen to it other than us anyway?
email from ang to tony:
honestly, i'm more interested in making a record than doing gigs. i just feel like we're a nostalgia act right now (like sha na na with you as bowser) - which is okay. but i need to bust a move again before another decade goes by and i'm dead and have no more product out there with my name on it (as Phil Cook says- a man is judged by the amount of product he leaves with his name on it). i'd like to start figuring out how to do this- but st pat's i guess would be okay
maybe...
