Snow Cat
So – I hooked up with this theater director. Well, let me start back a little bit. We have this idea for our next album. It’s not only a concept album (there is nothing more uncool than a concept album these days) – but it’s even worse than that. It’s a rock opera. Oh God. But I’m so into the idea and I could care less about how uncool it is… (way). The basic concept is this. There are three peeps. Snow, Hunter and Queen. Snow is a hot young confused girl. Hunter is a hot young confused boy. Queen is an older guy with experience and some problems. Drugs play an important role. So do Pipedreams. Snow od’s and goes into a coma. But unlike Snow White- she has no desire at all to be woken up. The world in her head is way better than the real one. This and that… blahdy blah. The end.
We’ve actually got the story pretty well worked out. And there are about 7 songs kind of finished for it – and a few more in the works. There are some of the demos at the bottom of this post. But don’t judge. They’re just crappy demos – a way for me to let the rest of the dudes hear the song ideas. Everything will change.
We’re getting in pretty deep with this. And while our only real goal is to make the records (the idea is that this will be two volumes) we’d also like to go about it as if it were actually going to be a musical performed in some warehouse on the outskirts of Hoboken or something. Which is cool. Because it’s already giving the songs this sort of musical theater kind of vibe. But not in a dorky musical theater way. I’m not sure what I mean – but – it has to do with the way the songs are coming together. Like – I assume they’re still pretty cryptic lyric-wise to anyone but me -but to me – i’m trying to get a lot of information in to push the story along. So the lyrics are for sure a bit different for me. And the arrangements too.
Anyway – the director. So – I had sent out a sort of plea for mentorship. Like – obviously we have no idea what we’re doing. And I was thinking that it might be good to get someone with experience to see if they’d mind taking a look at our ideas and giving us some constructive criticism. And I did hook up with this really cool guy who said he’d be willing. Which is awesome. So I finally emailed him something about a week ago and haven’t heard anything in response. I even put in the email, “dude- if this is the stupidest shit you’ve ever laid eyes on – you can tell us that! It’s okay!” But I’m afraid he might have thought is was so retarded that he’s afraid to even answer me. What he doesn’t know is that while I would love to get some feedback and would totally try to use any good suggestions anyone might have… that doesn’t mean that I could ever be deterred by a terrible idea. One of my favorite things in the world is to bring a terrible idea to fruition.
Or maybe he’s just out of town. We’ll see. I’ll keep you in the loop.
